From wrangling world champions to offending all of Denmark, or Switzerland, or both, Joel has been out and about in the Gong. There’s coffee that wasn’t paid for, local superfans, and birds that just won’t relent. Recorded with an audience at the Specialised House out on course, Kate and Joel discussed the medals that were won, the rainbows donned, and they somehow convinced a newly minted U23 Women’s world champion to drop in for a chat. Amongst all the excitement, they wondered if the machine beat the expert in predicting race outcomes. Join us for some fun, like, follow and share. All the colours of the rainbow (jersey) are on full display as the Wheelhouse with Kate and Joel dishes up an extra special Wollongong World's Road Race preview edition.Kate lists her top 5 picks out of the star studded women's and men's fields, with Joel forcing her to choose individual race winners, adapt to new rider nicknames, and embrace a fresh catalogue of worlds' themed puns. Joel tries to wrap his head around some of the UCI equipment rules, such as 'sock measuring' and 'bike motor screening' protocol, while Kate explains course intricacies and ponders whether the peloton will pause to snap selfies along the ridiculously picturesque route. No preview edition would be complete without respectful nods to the amazing array of great Australians, and race threatening magpies, that call the region home. On that note.. join us for a deep dive into the growing role of data and analytics in the pro peloton, as we ask the question; will machines replace human experts? Also.. some scheduling headaches for the UCI ahead of Filipino Gannas' crack at the hour record in Switzerland, and a surprise appearance from Amanda ‘Spratty Blue shoes’ Spratt in an amateur Penrith cycle group.
